Artsy Addict's First Blog Hop

ABOUT THE BLOG HOP
Hi everyone, welcome to my little spot in Marion Smith's 1st ever Artsy Addict Technique Blog Hop! I am both thrilled and honored to be a part of this blog hop.  If you are here, you should have come from Lily Marquez blog! If you came from somewhere else and want to follow the Artsy blog hop, the start point is Angela's blog! Angela worked hard to put the blog hop together!

There are great techniques being shared and loads of great people to meet and there are even some giveaways!  See below what I'm giving away!

MY PROJECT/TECHNIQUE
This is my project!
My multi media canvas is inspired by my love of hills, water, flowers, birds, butterflies and bird cages. You can watch the full video.

For the blog portion, I am focusing on the birdcage. The cage is made of MDF and is sold by Kaisercraft.  I used gold Rub'n Buff which I bought at Michael's. I then used/poured Gold Detail Embossing powder which I heat set.  It comes out nice and shimmery! Later in the project, I decided to dry brush some black acrylic paint to age it a little.

THE COMPLETE PROJECT VIDEO
(FYI - I have uploaded a new version with slightly better audio 05/01/2011/15:09) Finally, I was able to upload it!  Thanks for your patience and for taking the time to visit, read, watch and leave a comment!

THE ACTUAL RUB'N BUFF TUTORIAL

You know that scrubbie from Ranger?  Well it is great for more than getting ink off your hands!  It does a great job of cleaning off your brushes (just use it from the top of the bristles towards the bottom).  You can even use it to clean ink or glue off your brayer! And it lasts and lasts!

MY GIVE AWAY
To be eligible to win the following prize, you must be a follower of this blog and leave a comment at the bottom of this blog entry! You have until 1pm EST May 2nd to enter. I'll draw the prize later that Monday!

WHERE TO NEXT
Your next stop is the Purple Lily Studio!

What a Great Week

Busy weeks can be great weeks!  With most of my prep work done for my Group of 6 Layout class on Friday night, I was able to just have fun on Wednesday with Charlene!  We just scrapped and enjoyed each other's company, went out and had Thai for lunch and had dinner at Beef o'Brady's. The Thai food at Spice was just great, the burger at Beefs, not so great!! In fact, it was the worst burger I've had in a very long time! Oh well, it probably was just a fluke and I'll give them another chance in the coming months! Oh BTW, I worked on an ATC for a swap.  The twist was that I couldn't use any paper. Here is what it looks like.  I'll explain how I made this in more detail on Friday, during the Artsy Addict Technique Blog Hop. Stay Tuned!

Thursday I accompanied Hubby to his work and enjoyed the company of some of the wonderful people that I have met over the last couple of years! It was really wonderful to speak with some of the Deans, fellow scrapbooker and prof Sharlene B, the very personable and kind Barry and the two lovely ladies who I went to Canada with just a few weeks ago, Andrea and Brandis!

As I mentionned earlier, Friday was my group of six layout class and I had a great time.  I really enjoy meeting with these wonderful and dedicated teachers and coming up with ideas for layouts for them to do each month!

As for Saturday I picked up my friend Charlene and went to Simply Scrapbooks in Kittering, OH where I met up with Tina, Gina and Melissa to take a couple of classes with Kimber McGray!  You can see the cards we made on Kimber's blog, here! We had a great time and went home with some really pretty cards!

L to R: Melissa, Kimber, Tina and Gina

Kimber and Charlene at Simply Scrapbooks
One more thrill this week, my great friend Kate I is expecting!  After 11 years of marriage, she and her hubby Larry were finally blessed!  I am so totally excited for her!  Kate I hope that Larry waits on you hand and foot and that baby treats his mom well over the next few months.  Well after that too, LOL!

This week was my buddy, April's birthday!  Happy birthday, April, you look awesome!

I was speaking with two people on A Little Scrap of Heaven today and they became new subscribers to the blog!  Hi to Becca and Rachel!

A la prochaine, mes amis!

Travel 1 and 2 Class

Well I finally finished designing the second part of my Travel class. I'm going to post the first three two page layouts, followed by the new ones!  This time I've included suggestions on how to place pictures.  Because my group of 6 just want to do the layouts and then worry about adding pictures later on, the designs do not allow for a lot of items that would end up on top of the pictures.

Hope you like them! One of the things that I did is use some of the packaging.  Why, because it was really awesome, LOL! With the picture on a mat, it really is not a problem. Actually for all I know the packaging is acid free, but since I don't know for sure, I made sure that the picture will be matted!

Next post? Hmmm... do check back!

Other Ways to Save - 2 Peas Big Move Sale

In the interest of full disclosure I actually had this post or at least part of it written quite a week or so ago, but things happened and I didn't get it posted! I am sure you've noticed the Two Peas in a Bucket link in the left hand column of my blog.  I recently became an affiliate of their website. So yes, if you use my link, 2Peas will share a very small portion of their profit with me. You, however, will not pay a penny more than you would if you ordered directly from their website, honest. I consider that a win, win!

I love how they do things at 2Peas and right now they have some fantastic sales going. The reason being that they are growing, yes they are despite the current economy! They are also stocking more stams and more card making items. Because of their growth, they are moving to a new warehouse!  I think I am going to miss the wacky walks through the old warehouse, though I am sure that the wacky will stay in. How could it not be funny with Kitty and Jamie?

Of all the sales here is are my favorite two:
Select Papercrafting Florals now on sale for a limited time. Click here to go to the 81 floral items (lots of Prima)  that are currently on sale at 25 - 30% off.
Select Scrapbooking Paper Kits and Paper Pads now on sale for a limited time. If you know me, you know I love paper kits.  Some of these are 50% off and they are not from 5 years ago!  So that makes it a great time to go and shop!

Also on sale for a limited time::
- Select Hero Arts stamps
- American Crafts Adhesive Extreme Value Pack 25% off
- Select American Crafts Albums.
- Select Deer Lizzy Products.
- Select Martha Stewart Products.
- Select punches now on sale for a limited time.

I am not going to be making lots of these sale pitch posts, and I wouldn't now, except that these are really good and worthwhile deals and to me they are offered to you in the same spirit as I post coupons. So that's it.  Next post... some creative projects!

My Tea Tag Swap Project

Here are some things I am working on this week!

I am part of a time swap and here is my tag:

It is actually very dimensional.  The actual background is meant to depict a wall with a  chair rail. I used the Stella paper from My Mind's Eye! I used a two sided rivet in the hole of the tag so it would look pretty.

The table top and legs are made of wood which I cut, stained and lacquered.  I used lace for the table cloth.

I used 5 different stamps, one for the cupcakes which I stamped and colored and then cut out. I put two of the cut outs on top of each other, with the cupcake of the top cutout lifted. I used Diamond glaze (same as Crystal lacquer) on the frosting part of all the cupcakes and on the rim, middle and bottom of the plate.

I stamped the teapot and cups from Basic Gray paper!  I thought that would make them look more like porcelain.  I then cut out the teapot and the cups, which are modified teapots. I also hand created a lid for the teapot since the actual stamp had flowers in the pot. I used a black glaze pen to highlight the teapot and then popped up the teapot and each cup at different heights. I then lacquered  each one so that they would have a shine like porcelain.

I stamped the frame and stamped the Tea Time inside the frame on Crate Paper, paper.  I cut out the frame and then used my black glaze pen on the outline of the frame and the letters. I used two colors of bakers twine from Pink Paisley and tied them to each side of the frame and then glued down the frame to the tag.

I used three colors of fiber and two widths of ribbon. After looking at the fiber, I decided I liked it framing the sides of the tag rather than just flopping down, so I hot glued it to the sides after twirling it together a little.

Since all tea parties require a fancy hat, I found a hat charm and added it to the Tea Time frame!  And voila, my tag for the swap is completed!  Here is a picture of all the products I used!

I sure hope that the people in my swap group will like it!

March Layout Class and a Sneak Peek at May's!

Next are the 6 pages for the April Layout class. There will be a part two of this class in June, with a "For The Record" Class in May, just to break things up a little! Anyone attending the April class is required to also purchase the June class. Total cost of $40 for both, is payable the night of the first class, since the base kit will have been opened and compromised.  If you would like to order the complete 12 page travel kit and have it mailed to you, please contact me.  The kits will ship out once all 12 pages are ready and kitted, likely in early June. The Travel page kit is from Best Creations and it is just adorable!

Sometimes the paper tells most of the story and
you don't need a ton of embelishments.

We are going to learn to make the letters match perfectly.

A little of this and that!
Sneak peek at the May class... layout in progress:

The May, For the Record class, will be a little higher at $35 for the 6 pages, as I intend to use trim, flowers, metal embelishments and so forth on most of the 6 pages! For the record is intended for the ladies to use for themselves or someone special to document their lives and I intend for the layouts to reflect this.

Just a reminder, this is my work and is automatically copywrited. Please do not reproduce the pictures without my permission! I would really, really hate to have to sic Hubby on you, haha!

Painting Plastic

I really wanted to lighten up my scrap room a little and the ugly black clip-it-ups and the grey multi drawer organizer and the white  and black ribbon boxes just were not making me feel happy anymore!  And surely you know tha there is nothing more important in a creative space than to feel very happy, though it is likely that for some unhappiness also works!  But unhappiness inspires me to write poetry and songs, not make pretty scrapbook pages, and minis!  So I decided to paint all these plastic things! I'm sure many of you have done that, but for those of you who haven't it can really be a great thing and you can repaint the same items over and over again, simply by using a spray plastic primer.  Of course you can also use Krylon Plastic Paint.  The Clip-it-Ups, multi-drawer and single drawer green chest and the aqua colored ribbon boxes were all primed first. The pink, yellow and green ribbon boxes were not primed. I used Krylon plastic paint on those!

Green Clip It Up

Aqua Clip-it-Up

Pink Clip-it-Up

Green multi drawer painted plastic organizer

Pink and green and blue and yellow and aqua, Oh My!

Looks Good even up close!

Even those black office stackable drawers can be painted!
Hope you enjoyed this post!
